Troop Section

Age - 11 to15 years

This section follows immediately the Cub Section. This is made up of children aged between eleven to fifteen years of age. The Scout will reinforce and develop all the basic scouting skills that he acquired from the Cub Section.

The Scout section is run by a different system from that of the Cubs. This section is run by the Patrol. The Patrol is a small group of Scouts whereby they are the ones responsible for organizing a programme of activities for themselves. Every system needs a leader. In the Patrol, one can find the Patrol leader and is helped by the Assistant Patrol Leader. All these small groups ( Patrols ) have got a name. In fact the scouts like to use names of animals.

The 1st Hamrun troop section

The 1st Hamrun troop section is made up of three Patrols: Kestrel, Tiger and Eagle Patrol.

The Scout Council is a system that one can find in this section of the Scouts. This council is made up of the Chairman (Senior Patrol Leader), the Secretary ( Patrol Leader ) and the Treasurer ( Patrol leader ) and the other Patrol leaders.

The Scout Leader and the Assistant Scout Leader also attend for these council meetings. During these council meetings, a programme of activities and a schedule of meetings that will be held shortly, are drawn up.

In Hamrun, the Scout Section is made up of 25 boys. Under the guidance of Scout Leader  Cedric Salafia and Assistant Scout Leader Marlon Psaila a lot of different activities are held. These include campings, hikes, pioneering, first-aid, cooking, mapping and others. As one can easily see, these activities are a different alternative from those that normal children that do not attend the scouts do. To motivate these scouts, there is a badge system that each member should earn.

The badge system

The badge system include the following:

The first Scout badge is the Membership Badge. Throughout this badge the scout learns what his different tasks are, to become a good example for himself and for the others. Also he has to learn important history facts and dates about the founder of the Scout movement (Lord Robert Stephenson Smith Baden Powell). Finally, he has to learn also the Scout Laws that will help him improve himself as a member inside or outside the Scout Movement.

Three other important badges are the Scout Standard, the Advanced Scout Standard and the Chief Scout Award.

These badges tackle different aspects of scouting and thus the scout practices what he has learnt in theory.

We also have Proficiency Badges.  These badges include diverse disciplines, services or trade by which the children learn how to use them effectively in their personal life as they grow up.

Amongst these badges we can find the Athlete, the Swimmer, the First-Aider, the Camper, the Cyclist, the Entertainer, the Collectors, the Jobman, the Sportsman and others.

The Hamrun Scout Section meets every Wednesday and every Friday. The meetings start at 6.00pm and finish at 7.30pm.

If you are a boy within the age of a scout, we would like to invite you to attend and gather more information to enroll with the Hamrun Scout Group
